M. Basketball - Lupardus earns Jack Custriano Best Small Man Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Following the conclusion of the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship in Danville, Ill., the tournament committee handed out the individual player awards and all-tournament team.  Johnson County Community College freshman guard Anthony Lupardus was given the Jack Custriano Best Small Award for his play in the 2017 national tournament.

Lupardus led the Cavaliers through the consolation bracket to an eighth place finish in the tournament, five players better than their pre-tournament seeding. Lupardus scored in double figures in all four contests, and finished with an average of 16.0 per game. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals and shot 82 percent at the free throw line.

Lupardus also left his mark among the all-time team records in national tournament play. He tied a team tournament record with six 3-point baskets in the Cavaliers’ 76-68 win over Waubonsee. His 24 total points rank as the third-best game by a JCCC player at nationals. He also tied a game record with seven assists in an 85-77 win over Cincinnati State.

For the tournament, Lupardus now ranks third in total points (64), 10th in rebounds (10), ties for second in field goals (23), fourth in 3-point field goals (9), tied for 9th in free throw percentage (.818) tied for second in assists (15) and fifth in steals (6).
