Volleyball - Johnson County sweeps No. 13 Fort Scott

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College volleyball team pulled off a big upset on the road Wednesday, sweeping No. 13 Fort Scott Community College. The Lady Cavaliers won all three sets with a 25-21 margin, and improve to 6-11 overall on the season, and 3-2 in conference play. Fort Scott drops to 12-6 and 2-3 respectively.

Sophomore Bre Kamaka was one of the team’s leaders, finishing with a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs. He also had a kill percentage of .360, best among Johnson County’s hitters. Cate Stambaugh provided seven kills, and Meghan Tauke and Ciarra Valaez each had six.

Freshman Torey Burkhardt led the defense with 15 digs, along with nine each from Jade Askren and Destani Garten. Askren also led the offense with 22 assists.

Johnson County is back in action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30, hosting the annual JCCC Challenge.  This year’s field includes No. 3 Central Community College-Columbs (19-3); No. 8 Cowley College (19-4); Des Moines Area Community College (10-9); No. 12 Kirkwood Community College (14-8) and North Platte Community College (10-12).  Matches are at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, and 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.
