Basketball - JCCC women's and men's basketball teams open second half of season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women’s and men’s basketball teams opened the second of their 2017-18 season on Saturday, Jan. 6 by hosting State Fair Community College. The Lady Cavaliers, ranked ninth in NJCAA D-II, downed the Lady Roadrunners 76-63, while the men lost another close game, 70-68.

Sophomore guard Tristen McFeders and freshman guard Paige Elston had big games for the Johnson County women. McFeders poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Elston flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 10 assists and six boards.

Sophomore guard Kyliee Williams added 13 point in the win, and freshman forward Kylie Woods recorded a season high 11 rebounds to go along with her five points.

In the two point loss for the Cavaliers, Johnson County had a chance to tie or win the game with 10 second remaining, but were not able to get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded.

Four players finished in double figures scoring led by sophomore guard Marquawn Wilson with 15. He was 4-of-6 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line. Sophomore guard Anthony Lupardus and freshman guard Berlin Roberson each finished with 14 points and freshman guard Meli McKinney followed with 11.

The JCCC men return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 10 when they host MCC-Penn Valley at 7:00 p.m. Both teams host Southeast Community College on Saturday, Jan. 13. The women tip at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men at 4:00 p.m.
