Volleyball - JCCC sweeps Indy in final conference match

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College volleyball team made quick work of Independence Community College Wednesday night in the team’s final conference match, sweeping the Lady Pirates 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.  With the victory the Lady Cavaliers improve to 14-16 overall and to 6-3 and fourth place in the East Jayhawk Conference standings.

Freshman Anna Hester and sophomore Meghan Tauke were the team’s top hitters. Hester recorded 13 kills and had a kill percentage of .500 and Tauke had 11 kills and hit .444.

The offense was led by sophomore Tanner Wallace with 22 assists and freshman Jade Askren with 15 assist, and sophomore Destani Garten led the defense with a season-high 23 digs.

Johnson County has one match remaining before postseason play begins Nov. 4. The Lady Cavaliers travel to Hesston, Kan., to take on the Larks on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
