W. Basketball - JCCC remains ninth in basketball poll

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Despite suffering back-to-back losses at the buzzer last week, the Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team remained in the ninth spot in this week’s NJCAA D-II Coaches Poll.  Monroe Community College (15-1) remained No. 1.

The Lady Cavaliers enter the holiday break at 12-4 with all four losses coming against NJCAA Division I opponents by a combined nine points.

Through the first 16 games, Johnson County has four players averaging double figures scoring. Leading the way is sophomore transfer Tristen McFeders at 16.1 per game.

Freshman Jacionna Stowers is scoring at a 14.1 per clip. She also leads the conference ranks third in the nation with 60 made 3-point baskets. She also hitting 43 percent behind the arch which also leads the conference.

Sophomore Cerena Reeves is close to averaging a double-double in points and rebounds. She is scoring 11.9 per game and hauling down 9.1 rebounds per outing. Her 145 total rebounds to date are second-most in the conference, and ranks sixth in the NJCAA.

The fourth player in double digits scoring is freshman Paige Elston at 11.1 per game. She also leads the team and conference in free throw accuracy at 80 percent.

The Lady Cavaliers return to action on Jan 6, when they host State Fair Community College. The opening tip is schedule for 2 p.m.
