W. Basketball - JCCC posts 67-point win over Bethany JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Two days after suffering a buzzer-beating loss against Western Nebraska, the No. 25 team in Division I, the Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team cruised to a 67-point win over Bethany College JV on Monday night, 92-25.  The 25 points allowed tie the ninth lowest scored on the Lady Cavaliers in team history.

Three Johnson County players finished in double figures, led by sophomore Cerena Reeves who finished with a career high 25 points. This is the fourth time this season she has scored double figures, including each of the last three games. Against Bethany, Reeves hit nine of her 17 attempts and was 7-of-10 at the free throw line. She also was the top rebounder with eighth and tied for the team lead in steals with four.

Freshmen Paige Elston and Jacionna Stowers also finished in double digits scoring. Elson hit 6-of-7 shots with a 3-pointer to finish with 13, and Stowers was 3-of-6 with two treys and 3-of-3 at the line. Elston also had four steals.

Freshman Sydney Jones came in off the bench to produce her best game of her young college career. She set new season highs for points with nine and rebounds with five.

The Lady Cavaliers will take their 6-1 record and No. 2 national ranking to the East Coast to take on College of Southern Maryland in LaPlata on Friday, Nov. 17. Johnson County defeated Southern Maryland last Dec. 2, 94-50 in the first meeting of the two programs.  The Lady Cavaliers return home to host Washburn University JV on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
