W. Basketball - JCCC No. 3 in first poll of season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The National Junior College Athletic Association released their first basketball polls of the 2017-18 regular season and the Johnson County Community College women’s team is slotted at No. 3.  Monroe Community College is the No. 1 team followed by North Iowa Area Community College.  St. Louis Community College and Pima Community College round out the top five.

Three other Kansas Jayhawk D-II rivals are among the top 20. Highland Community College earned the eighth spot, Kansas City Kansas Community College is No. 11, and Labette Community College is No. 14.

Shortly after the poll was released, the Lady Cavaliers showed Bethany College JV why they earned that lofty ranking, handing the Swedes an 83-25 pounding at Hahn Gymnasium in Lindsborg, Kan.

Sophomore Tristen McFeders continued to shine, leading Johnson County with 20 points, five assists and five steals.

Freshman Jacionna Stowers also finished in double figures with 13 points, and sophomore Cerena Reeves flirted with a double-double posting eight points and nine rebounds.

Johnson County will take its 12-2 record and No. 3 ranking on the road Saturday to Sedalia, Mo., to take on State Fair Community College. The Lady Cavaliers lead the all-time series with State Fair 19-to-13, and defeated the Roadrunners 62-58 the last time they met in the 2013-14 season.
