Cross Country - JCCC men fourth at Disney Classic

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s cross country finished fourth among the NCAA non-Division I completion at the 21st annual Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Fla., Saturday, Oct. 7.  The race was shown live on ESPN 3.  The team’s fourth place showing was the third highest recorded at the event. Johnson County finished third in 2006 and 2011.

On a hot and humid day with a dew-soaked course the Cavaliers produced two top-20 finishes, and four among the top 52 in the race. Sophomore Duncan Gakuru led the way with a 16th place individual finish with a time of 27:18.8.  Sophomore Sam Hengeli was four spots back in 20th place. He finished the 8k course in 27:23.4.

Sophomores Souleymane Adam and Brendan McRoberts raced to 44th and 52nd place finishes respectively. Adam finished in 28:18.0, and McRoberts came in at 28:29.7.  Freshman Trey Seaba was 87th with a time of 30:01.8.

The Johnson County women’s team did not figure in the team scoring because only four runners competed. Sophomore Yulissa Dela Torre was the team’s top runner, finishing in 20:38.0 for 74th place overall.

The other three JCCC competitors were sophomore Jessalyn Rivet Tissot (150th-22:42.5); freshman Emma Stimatze (164th-23:06.5) and freshman Mikayla Lisher (224th-30:23.7).

The JCCC harriers have just one more meet remaining before the Kansas Jayhawk Conference/Region VI Championships on Monday, Oct. 30 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kan.  JCCC is hosting its annual alumni run on Friday, Oct. 20 on the campus course.
