W. Basketball - JCCC improves to 3-0 on the season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2 ranked Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 with a pair of home victories over the weekend. On Friday evening, the Lady Cavaliers handed cross-town rival MCC-Penn Valley a 77-43 defeat, and followed on Saturday afternoon with an 83-73 win over North Central Missouri College.

In the win over Penn Valley, the starting five for Johnson County accounted for 53 of the team’s 77 points. Freshman guard Paige Elston led the way with 18 points. She hit 8-of-16 shots, including a three, and one free throw.  Sophomore guard Tristen McFeders followed with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Cerena Reeves added eight points and hauled down a career high 16 rebounds. Sophomore forward Ida Pieschl had a solid effort with six points and six boards, and sophomore guard Kylee Williams hit two 3-pointers and finished with seven points.

From the reserves, freshman forward Juella Brown was a key contributor with seven points and six rebounds.

Four of the starting five finished in double figures in the win over North Central Missouri. McFeders was the top scorer with 23 points. She hit 11-of-22 shots along with a free throw. She also collected seven rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Elton followed with 18 points, going 5-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. Reeves flirted with a double-double for a second straight game, finishing with 14 points and eight boards, and Williams nailed three long range shots to finish with 10 points.

After opening with three home games, Johnson County hits the road for its next three contests. They play at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Neb., on Tuesday, Nov. 7, then travel to Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa to face Briar Cliff University JV on Nov. 10, and Western Nebraska Community College on Nov. 11.
