W. Soccer - JCCC earns a share of the conference crown

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 18th ranked Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team claimed earned at least a share of the Kansas Jayhawk Conference East Division title with a 2-0 victory over Allen Community College yesterday in Iola, Kan. This is the fifth conference title in program history, but the first since 2009. That team went on to finish runner-up at the NJCAA Tournament.

Butler Community College can move into a tie with JCCC with a win over Kansas City Kansas Community College today.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Cavaliers got on the board in the 68th minute when freshman Manuela Gonzalez fed freshman Cielo Rivera for the first score. Johnson County got an insurance goal by sophomore Bree Ullom off a feed from sophomore Paige Downey with two minutes to play.  

Freshman Vanessa Silva stopped four shots to earn her 14th victory and seventh shutout.

Johnson County (14-3-0/11-1-0) will have some time off before the Region VI playoffs begin on Saturday, Oct. 28.
