W. Soccer - Hopkisson powers JCCC to win at Cowley

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman forward Millie Hopkisson played a part in all three scores to lead the Lady Cavaliers to a 3-1 win over Cowley College Tuesday evening at Arkansas City, Kan. Hopkisson scored JCCC’s first and third goals, and assisted on the second.

Hopkisson’s first goal came from a penalty kick in the 34 minute to give JCCC a 1-0 lead. Two minutes into the second half, she fed Paige Downey for a 2-0 lead, and three minutes later she netted her second score off a feed from Cielo Rivera.

Cowley’s Anouchka Berthelot scored a goal in the final minute to make a 3-1 final.

Freshman Vanessa Silva picked up the win, stopping one shot in the first half. Sophomore Hannah Inglima played the second half, stopping one shot while allowing on score.

Johnson County played two matches this weekend on the road. On Saturday, Oct. 7 they face St. Charles Community College, followed by a match at Lewis & Clark Community College on Sunday, Oct. 8.
