M. Soccer - Cavaliers thrashed by cross-town rival KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College jumped out to an early advantage with two goals in the first four minutes against cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College Wednesday night, then the flood gates opened on the Cavaliers. At the end of 90 minutes, Johnson County found themselves on the short end of a 9-2 thumping by the Blue Devils.

The nine goals are the most the Cavaliers have allowed in 59 meetings dating back to 1986, and the seven goal margin also set a new standard in the series’ history, surpassing a 5-0 KCKCC win in 1999.

The Cavaliers took the early 2-0 lead in the match on two goals by freshman Jason Wolfe, but the Blue Devils bounced back with three goals over nine-minute span to take lead and they did not look back.

Seven different KCKCC players scored goals and six others had assists in the win. Giovanni Calderon led the Blue Devils with three scores.

The Cavaliers will look to rebound on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they host South Suburban College at noon. They return to Jayhawk Conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when they take on Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kan.
