M. Soccer - Cavaliers rebound with 5-2 win over South Suburban

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Four days after giving up nine unanswered goals in a 9-2 loss at Kansas City Kansas Community College, the Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team pulled off a 5-2 victory over South Suburban College on Saturday afternoon at the JCCC soccer field.

Sophomore Chace Beckham put the Cavalier up 1-nil off a feed from freshman Sam Mayeske in the 37th minute.

Two minutes into the second half, freshman forward Sun Min Choo scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from freshman Luis Herrera, and in the 77th minute he notched his second career goal.

Sophomore Akolade Gbadebo scored his first goal of 2017 in the 64th minute to put the Cavaliers up 3-1. His scored would prove to be the game winner. Gbadebo also was credited with the assist on Choo’s second goal.

Freshman Marwan Bakit, a late addition to the roster this season, found the back of the net for his first score of the season. Bakit’s unassisted goal came in the 87th minute and provided the final margin of a 5-2 Cavaliers victory.

Johnson County is on the road for its next five matches, including three against conference opponents. The five-match road swing begins Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Cowley College, followed by two weekend matches at St. Charles Community College on Saturday, Oct. 7, and at Lewis & Clark Community College on Sunday, Oct. 8. The Cavaliers lone home match this month is Tuesday, Oct 17 against Kansas City Kansas Community College.
