Baseball - Cavaliers keep winning

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College baseball team extended its current win streak to 15 games on Tuesday afternoon, taking down Southwestern Community College, 15-7. The win improved the Cavaliers season record to 35-9.

Freshman second baseman Matt Johnson collected three hits, including an RBI double and a two-run triple, to lead a 12-hit attack by the Cavaliers. This was his first game this season with multiple extra base hits.

The Cavaliers also got a solo home run from Troy Daring, Jr., in the bottom of the fifth, and a two-run shot from freshman Tanner Padgett an inning later. Daring, Jr. also drove in the game’s first run in the first drawing a bases loaded walk scoring Maurice Bruce.

Sophomore shortstop Nick McMurray and sophomore first baseman Matt Warkenin each had a single and a double and drove in two runs, and freshman catcher Jake Karst plated two runs with a single in the bottom of the eighth, jump starting the Cavaliers 5-run inning.

Freshman right-hander Briley Buckley notched his third win of the season after hurling 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out three. Overall, JCCC’s five pitchers in the game combined for 10 strikeouts.
