M. Basketball - Cavaliers get first two wins of the season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team earned its first two victories of the season with two impressive performances over the weekend at the Highland Classic in Highland, Kan. The Cavaliers opened with a 103-71 win over Graceland University JV on Friday afternoon, and followed with a 90-67 win over Northwest Kansas Technical College, the newest member of the Kansas Jayhawk Conference.

Five Cavaliers finished in double figures scoring in the win over Graceland JV. Sophomore guard Anthony Lupardus was the top scorer finishing with 22 points. He hit 7-of-15 shots, including five 3-pointers. He also contributed six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Freshman guard General Williams had a hot afternoon shooting the ball. He hit 8-of-11 attempts and finished with 19 points, five boards and two assists.

Sophomore guard Marquawn Wilson posted a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He also flirted with a triple-double, adding seven assists.  Freshman forward Xavier Womack finished with 18 points and sophomore guard Mat Baldeh added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Johnson County also had five finish in double figures in the win over Northwest Kansas Tech. Freshman forward Evan Morrison busted out with a career and game high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting with a trey and 3-of-3 at the line.

Wilson followed with 17 points and seven boards, and Lupardus notched his first double-double of the season finishing with 15 points and 11 assists. Womack and Baldeh each poured in 11 points.

Johnson County will be action again Monday night when they host Washburn University JV at 7 p.m.
