Baseball - Cavaliers comeback to beat MCC-Maple Woods

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College baseball team gets back to their winnings ways with a thrilling comeback victory over MCC-Maple Woods. After getting down 7-0, the Cavaliers stormed back to win 10-7. The win improves the Cavaliers to 41-10 overall.

The comeback began in the bottom of the third with sophomore left fielder Maurice Bruce hitting a single, driving in the first two runs of the game for the Cavaliers. Freshman designated hitter Tanner Padgett singled to drive in Bruce, followed sophomore third baseman Brandt Ollinger’s triple to bring in Padgett, cutting the lead to 7-5 going into the top of the fourth.

In the fifth inning the Cavaliers took the lead on freshman center fielder Daonte Lowery ground out to second base, driving in Ollinger. Sophomore first baseman Matt Warkentin added to his home run total (15) for the year hitting a two run bomb in bottom of the sixth to give the Cavaliers the lead 10-7.

Overall the Cavaliers’ offense collected nine hits, team total of seven RBI, one double, one triple, one home run, and left six on base by the end of the game. The five pitchers the Cavaliers used combined for a total of nine strikeouts, five walks, giving up nine hits total between the five pitchers. Sophomore Brennan Lewis got the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings in relief.
