M. Soccer - Cavaliers battle to a 2-2 draw with KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team played much better this time against cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College, battling to a 2-2 double overtime draw at JCCC’s soccer field Tuesday afternoon. In the previous meeting with the Blue Devils, JCCC scored two quick goals then allowed nine unanswered for a 9-2 loss.

Sophomore midfielder Derrick McClanahan tied the game with his second score of the day in the 83rd minute, and both teams held each other in check the remaining seven minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. Freshman Sam Mayeske provided the assist.

Kansas City Kansas struck first in the 15th minute on a shot by Keevin Dyke. It remained 1-0 until the 65th minute when McClanahan scored his first goal off an assist from Landon Rupp.

Blue Devil forward Jackson Jones scored what appeared to be a game winning goal in the 80th minute, but three minutes later McClanahan tied the match with his fourth goal of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Luis Montalvo started in the net, but 20 minutes into the game he suffered a hand injury, and freshman Luis Alanis stepped in and saved four of the five shots he faced in his 90 minutes of action.

Johnson County closes out its regular season on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Allen Community College in Iola, Kan. The Region VI playoffs are scheduled to begin Saturday, Oct. 28
