Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to deliver keynote
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College College Republicans, in conjunction with the FairTax Kansas Association and the Association of Mature American Citizens (Amac), will host a Tax Freedom Day event at JCCC on Tuesday, April 22, in the Craig Community Center Auditorium (GEB Building, Room 233) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach will deliver the keynote address. The press and public are welcome to attend.
Tax Freedom Day, according to the Tax Foundation, which calculates the date, is a day when the nation as a whole has earned enough money to pay its total tax bill for year. Tax Freedom Day is three days later than last year due mainly to the country’s continued slow economic recovery, which is expected to boost tax revenue especially from the corporate, payroll, and individual income tax.
“For three and half months of the year, the average American worker must sacrifice the fruits of their labor to satisfy the seemingly endless appetite of government,” said Randell Phalp, volunteer delegate for Amac. “Year after year, government takes more and more. This harms all Americans, but especially our seniors and those that are just starting their careers. That is why we have partnered with the College Republicans on this issue. It is time to put government on a diet and change the way we fund essential functions of government. It is an issue that both students and seniors should rally behind.”
“We are excited about this partnership,” said Earl Long, who heads up both the FairTaxKC and FairTax Kansas Associations. “The FairTax is a national consumption tax that would replace all personal and business income taxes, as well as capital gains and death tax. We believe, and can demonstrate, that the FairTax is the answer to much of what ails our economy. Also, the FairTax is the only tax plan that would totally eliminate the IRS and their now well-documented abuses of power and authority.”
In his keynote address, Kobach will present the case that FairTax is the most constitutionally sound solution for our nation’s tax policy. The FairTax Kansas presentation will emphasize the positive affects the FairTax has for both youth and our seniors.
