JCCC announces spring Ruel Joyce Recital Series lineup

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The lineup for the spring Ruel Joyce Recital Series is set. The series, now in its 25th year, showcases the talents of Kansas City’s finest classical musicians.

Recitals are held at noon Monday for nine consecutive weeks, Feb. 17 to April 14, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center of Johnson County Community College. All performances are free and open to the public.

Here's the schedule for spring 2014:

  • Feb. 24   Heartland Harp Ensemble
  • March 3  Sunnat Ibragimov, cello, and Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, piano
  • March 10  KC Baroque Consortium
  • March 17  Wakarusa Trio
  • March 24   Brookside String Quartet
  • March 31  Veronique Mathieu, violin, and Ellen Bottorff, piano
  • April 7   Ron Stinson, trumpet, and Patricia Higdon, piano
  • April 14  Artem Alexanyan, piano 

The JCCC Music and Theatre department sponsors the series, named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musician’s federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
