JCCC presents the children’s play ‘Ming Lee and the Magic Tree’

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Students and faculty from the Music and Theatre department of Johnson County Community College will present the children’s play “Ming Lee and the Magic Tree” during several performances in March.

All performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held in Bodker Black Box Theatre of the Carlsen Center. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, and noon, 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15. Two additional daytime performances will take place at 2 and 4 p.m., Sunday, March 16. Seating for all shows is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The play, written by Aurand Harris, is directed by Timothy Noble, adjunct professor of theatre. Performed in traditional Chinese style, this play tells the tale of a prince who wants to marry the Princess of the Stars but he is cursed to live his life in the form of a tiger until he can discover the true meaning of happiness. His journey takes him on an amusing and thoughtful adventure in which he learns valuable lessons about self-acceptance along the way.
