JCCC names executive vice president, finance and administrative services

Barbara LarsonOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College has hired a vice president from a community college in Florida to serve as its executive vice president of finance and administrative services.

Barbara L. Larson succeeds Joe Sopcich, who took over as president of the college in June. She will oversee business services, campus services, financial services, information services, insurance and risk management, the box office and the JCCC police department. The board of trustees approved her appointment in February and her first day on the job was Feb. 24.

Larson had been serving as vice president for administration and chief financial officer for Hillsborough Community College, in Tampa, Fla., a multi-campus that annually serves 20,000 full-time equivalent students. In that job, she developed the college’s $212 million budget and oversaw financial and administrative functions and physical facilities. She had been there since 2006, and served as interim president of the college's SouthShore campus in 2009.

Prior to her work at Hillsborough, Larson was vice president, administrative services and finance, at Lansing (Mich.) Community College; vice president for business and finance, Delhi, State University of New York and director of budget and purchasing for Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Larson earned a doctorate in education in 2012 from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a master's degree in 1983 in public policy and administration at the Robert M. LaFollette Center for Public Policy and Administration at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She also holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
