JCCC Cosmetology students give free pre-prom services for selected high school students

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Prom is the social event of the season for high school students, and cosmetology students at Johnson County Community College want to help those students look their best.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, JCCC cosmetology students will be assisting students who might not otherwise be able to afford beauty services.

Counselors at area high schools have helped to select those students who could benefit from a fancy updo, a cosmetics application or a mini-manicure, all at no charge to the student.

The event is part of continuing effort for the JCCC cosmetology department and its students to give back to the community. This is the second year special prom preparations have been hosted by JCCC.

“The students really enjoy this chance to practice their skills and help others look and feel beautiful for their special event,” said Lana Hodes, coordinator for cosmetology at JCCC.

The cosmetology, esthetics and nail technology departments are located on the college’s West Park campus, 9780 W. 87th St., Overland Park.

Appointments for the general public can be made by calling 913-469-8500 ext. 2390.
