JCCC accounting students offer free federal income tax return preparation

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College students are providing free federal income tax preparation through March 4 for households earning $52,000 or less. The effort is a partnership with Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas.

Students in the federal income tax class taught by Adam Spoolstra, assistant professor of accounting, are offering the service from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through March 4, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through March 1, at the JCCC West Park location, 9780 West 87th Street, Overland Park.

Taxpayers will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. All adults on the return must be present to sign the return.

Taxpayers should bring:

  • Social Security card or individual taxpayer identification number for each family member
  • Valid photo ID
  • W-2 forms for all jobs worked in 2013
  • All 1099 forms for other income, if any
  • Child care provider name, address and tax ID
  • Any other tax related documents
  • Bank account information for direct deposit
