Academic Music Concerts

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—Students and faculty from the music and theatre department of Johnson County Community College will present their final performances of the season during two concerts in May.

The performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center.  Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuesday, May 6, the JCCC Concert Band, the JCCC Vocal Jazz Choir and the JCCC Jazz Ensemble, will present their program, “Sun Dancing,” conducted by Ron Stinson, music professor.

Featured selections include:

  • “The Hounds of Spring” by Alfred Reed
  • “Nothin’ but Bop” by Matthew Pelandini
  • “Cruisin’ with the Count” by Andy Farber

Performances on Wednesday, May 7, will highlight the talents of MadRegalia and the JCCC Chamber Choir, conducted by Terri Teal, music professor.

Featured selections include:

  • “Bird” madrigals and songs
  • “Ouvre ton coeur” by Georges Bizet
  • Korean folksongs
  • “Requiem” by Mark Hayes
  • Songs by the Beatles
