Students recognized at Athletic Academic Night

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College athletic department honored 129 students involved in athletics, dance and athletic training for academic excellence on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, between the women’s and men’s basketball games against Highland Community College. 

This past fall, 58 percent of the students associated with the athletic department maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or better (129-of-224). Twenty-two recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point. 

Some of the top teams last fall were the women’s cross country and women’s tennis teams with 100 percent of their rosters at 3.0 or better. Volleyball was at 82 percent, golf at 80 percent, dance at 73 percent, baseball at 71 percent, softball at 63 percent and men’s soccer at 57 percent. 

Additionally, JCCC student-athletes have earned 324 Academic All-America accolades in the school’s history.
