M. Tennis – Rahachou earns ITA All-American in singles

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released is final season rankings for the 2014 campaign, and Johnson County Community College sophomore Spartak Rahachou finished the year ranked third in singles. By finishing ranked in the top 10 nationally, Rahachou earned ITA All-America honors. He is the 18th and final player in JCCC tennis history to earn ITA All-American. The college decided to drop the men’s and women’s tennis programs following the 2014 season.

Rahachou finished the season with a 17-6 record playing from the No. 1 position. At nationals, he was the team’s top performer. Seeded seventh in the No. 1 singles bracket, Rahachou reached the semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Joshua Page of AABC. Rahachou won the first set over Page, 6-3, but lost the next two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Rahachou’s 17 wins at the No. 1 spot rank tied for the fifth-most recorded in a season at Johnson County. He compiled a 31-13 career mark, which established a new record at No. 1 singles that will never be broken.

Rahachou and teammate Kevin Kochersperger ended the season ranked seventh in the ITA double rankings. The pair reached the quarterfinals at national at No. 1 doubles. They finished the season with a record of 8-8.

Kochersperger and freshman Jose Torres also finished in the national singles rankings. Kochersperger came in at No. 31 after going 10-11 on the season, playing all but one match at the No. 2 spot.  Torres posted a 13-8 record playing all but one at the No. 4 position. He earned the 44th spot in the ITA rankings.
