M. Soccer – Three Cavaliers earn NSCAA Scholar All-America

Landon ShupeOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Landon Shupe, Dylan Waggenbaur and Zach Wustefeld, sophomores on the Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team, were recently selected to the 10-member National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America team at the organization’s annual convention in Philadelphia, Pa., in mid-January. Additionally, Shupe, a defender and pre-pharmacy major, was named the NSCAA Junior College Scholar All-America Player of the Year.

The three players helped the Cavaliers to a 12-7-1 record, and runner-up finish in the Region VI Championship last fall.

Shupe brought stability, strength and leadership to the backfield for JCCC, while serving key cog in the Cavaliers defensive scheme in 2013. A great marker and ball distributor, Shupe helped the defense post a 1.84 goals against average. He was selected as a second-team Kansas Jayhawk Conference and Region VI defender last season.

Waggenbaur and Wustefeld were starting forwards for the Cavaliers. Waggenbaur finished the campaign with 16 points from four goals and team-leading eight assists. Two of his goals were game winners. Wustefeld finished with four goals and two assists for 10 points, and had one game-winning goal.
