OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The top scorer and rebounder from the Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team last season, signed national letters-of-intent to continue their playing careers at a four-year institution. Pat Jones, the team’s leading scorer and conference MVP, will be heading to Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., and Preston Oakes, the Cavaliers top rebounder, has signed with Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan.

A second-team All-America selection this year, Jones averaged an impressive 20.6 points per game, making him just the sixth player in the 45-year history of the program to finish a season with an average over 20 per game. He reached double figures 24 times on the season. He had 17 games in the 20s, six in the 30s and he poured in a career high 41 in a win at Hesston in late January. That effort tied the sixth-best game by a Cavalier, and he drained eight 3-point baskets, one shy of the single game record.

Jones also hit 86 3-point baskets on the season, and 193 free throws. Both totals rank second on JCCC’s season charts.

For his career, Jones scored 843 points, hit 114 3-point baskets and 255 free throws, which rank 25th, 10th and sixth respectively at JCCC.

Oakes transferred from Central Missouri for his sophomore season, and he was a valuable addition to the team. He finished the year ranked second on the team in scoring with an average of 18.1, and led the team with a 6.3 rebound per game average. He also hit 53 3-point baskets while shooting 40 percent behind the arch.
