M. Basketball – Jones named KJCCC D-II MVP

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore guard Pat Jones put up MVP type numbers this season, and it was confirmed yesterday when he was named the Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II Most Valuable Player. He is the first player in JCCC history to garner MVP honors.

Additionally, sophomore forward Preston Oakes was named honorable mention all-conference performer.

Jones ranks fourth in the Jayhawk Conference and tied for 32nd in the country with an average of 20.6 points scored per game. That is the highest season scoring average by a player since Herb Nobles averaged 21.4 during the 1973-74 season, 40 years ago. His 639 total points are the sixth best season recorded at JCCC. Jones also knocked down 86 3-point baskets, just five shy of the school record. Jones also was selected the KJCCC/Verizon Wireless Player of the Week a record five times in 2013-14.

Oakes transferred from Central Missouri for his sophomore season, and he was a valuable addition to the team. He finished the year ranked second on the team in scoring with an average of 18.1, and led the team with a 6.3 rebound per game average. He also hit 53 3-point baskets while shooting 40 percent behind the arch.
