Baseball – Hot bats power Cavaliers past Longview

Anthony MillerOVERLAND PARK, Kan.  – A tremendous effort from Anthony Miller (Blue Valley Southwest) lifted No 9 ranked Johnson County Community College to a 24-11 win in eight innings over MCC-Longview on Tuesday at Lee’s Summit, Mo. The 24 runs by Johnson County are the most scored in the 64-game series history.

Miller racked up six RBI on five hits for the Cavaliers. He homered in the fourth and eighth innings, and singled in the second, sixth and eighth innings. His two hits in the eighth inning helped plate eight runners.

The Cavaliers easily handled Longview’s pitching. Johnson County ripped 17 hits, including nine extra base hits by seven different players. Sophomore Hayden Steele (St. Joseph, Mo.) had a double and homer to drive in four runs.

Freshman pitcher Derek Hurt (Blue Valley West) picked up the win in relief, pitching two-thirds of an inning, allowing no runs.
