Golf – Cavaliers start final spring season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College golf team opened its final spring season Monday at Salina Municipal Golf Course in Salina, Kan. The tournament, fourth of the Kansas Jayhawk Conference season, was shortened due to poor weather conditions. The Cavaliers ended up third overall with a team score of 288, eight shots over par. Dodge City finished first with a team score of eight under par.

Freshman Charlie Rineheart shot a one-under 69 to place in a four-way tie for third place. He opened with a one over par 36, but moved up the leaderboard with a two-under 33 on the back nine. His score of 69 was one shot off the team-best 18-hole score at Salina Municipal. This was Rinehart’s fourth top-five finish this year, including two victories.

Freshman Triston Abts also played his way into a top 10 finish. He carded a one-over par 71 to finish in a six-way tie for ninth place. Abts closed out his round with a one-under 34 on the back nine, after shooting a two-over 37 start his round.

Freshmen Wade Hageman and Parker Miller finished in a seven-way tie for 21st with an 18-hole total 74, four over par, and freshman Logan Henrichs carded a seven-over 77 to place in a tie for 33rd.

The Cavaliers hit the links again for the fifth conference tournament, April 7, at Rolling Meadows in Junction City, Kan. Two week later they will compete for the Jayhawk Conference Championship, followed by the District Championship April 28-29, and the NJCAA Tournament May 11-16.
