Baseball – JCCC baseball program dominant in classroom

OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College baseball program has a long-standing tradition of academic success. The JCCC baseball program has finished in the top 16 in the country for team grade point average the previous six seasons, and it appears that trend will continue in 2014.

In fall 2013, the JCCC baseball team had another impressive semester in the classroom. The Cavaliers compiled a team grade point average of 3.17, marking the 11th semester out of the last 12 the team has produced a grade point of a 3.0 or better. Twenty-two players (71 percent of the roster) achieved a grade point of 3.0 or higher, and three registered a perfect 4.0 grade point.

“We take a lot pride in the success our players have in the classroom each year,” said head coach Kent Shelley.

The previous academic finishes by the JCCC baseball team:

2008 – 3.1 (16th)
2009 – 3.3 (8th)
2010 – 3.32 (4th)
2011 – 3.12 (13th)
2012 – 3.26 (7th)
2013 – 3.34 (3rd)
