Baseball – JCCC’s Miller commits to Creighton

Connor Miller0VERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore right-handed pitcher Connor Miller has verbally committed to play baseball for coach Ed Servais at Creighton University, according to Cavaliers head coach Kent Shelley.

The 5-10, 185-pound Omaha, Neb., native also considered the University of Central Missouri and University of Illinois-Chicago.

Creighton finished the 2013 season with a 30-18 record and placed third in its final season in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bluejays are moving to the Big East this year.

Miller is expected to be one of the top pitchers in the East Jayhawk Conference, and among the best in the country this season. As a freshman, Miller posted a 1.49 ERA, which tied for the best on the team. He worked 42 innings with 35 strikeouts. He also held opposing batters to a .229 batting averaging, only giving up 25 hits.

“Connor has a bulldog mentality when he is on the mound,” Shelley said. “He is an athletic pitcher and has great stuff. We look forward to him playing a key role in our team’s success this season.”

Miller was a two-year starter for coach Frank Ryan at Millard West High School. He was named second-team All-Nebraska by the World Herald as an outfielder, and second-team Super State by the Lincoln Journal Star as a utility player his senior year. Miller hit .390 with 48 hits, eight doubles, a triple, five home runs and 34 RBI. He also went 7-1 on the hill, with 56 strikeouts, and finished with an ERA of 1.30.
