W. Soccer – JCCC’s Hughes nabs POW honors again

Courtney HughesOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman midfielder Courtney Hughes as been selected the KJCCC/Verizon Wireless and NJCAA National Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.  This is the second time this season she has earned both honors. She also was selected for her play during the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6. 

Hughes capped her first collegiate regular season with three goals and an assist in JCCC’s 8-1 road victory at Dodge City, last Saturday.  That was her fourth hat trick of the season, tying the single season record at JCCC. She enters postseason play this weekend as the team’s leading scorer with 28 goals and 10 assists for 66 points. 

JCCC will host Independence at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, in the first round of the NJCAA Region VI playoffs. The winner advances to the semifinals Nov. 7 at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka, Kan.
