W. Soccer – JCCC wins 14th straight season opener

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team won its season opener for a 14th consecutive year, downing Cloud County Community College, 5-0 in Concordia, Kan., Aug. 22. JCCC is 14-1-0 all-time in season openers, with the only loss coming in the program’s inaugural season in 1999. 

Freshman Katie Metscher played a part in JCCC’s first three goals, scoring the first and third goals, while providing the assist on the second.  Freshman Paola Melendez also had a solid start to her collegiate season, dishing out three assists. 

Sophomore Kelsey Wakefield and freshmen Courtney Hughes and Brooklyn Meinke scored JCCC’s three other goals.  Sophomore Janay Stone and freshman Maddie Waner shared the shutout, each stopping one shot. 

The Lady Cavaliers travel across town Wed., Aug. 28, for a conference match against Kansas City Kansas Community College. KCKCC is dedicating its new field prior to the kickoff.
