W. Soccer – Hughes selected All-American

Courtney HughesOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The NJCAA recently announced its All-America selections for women’s soccer, and Johnson County Community College sophomore forward Courtney Hughes was named as second-team performer for 2013.  She is the 12th player to earn All-American in team history, but the first since 2007.

Hughes led JCCC in virtually every statistical category. She led in points with 77, goals scored with 33 and game winning goals with six. She was second in assists with 11.  Her 77 points rank as the fourth-best in team history, and ranked ninth in the NJCAA. Her 33 goals scored are the third highest season total at JCCC, and ranked tied for sixth nationally.

Hughes also set a team record with five hat tricks on the season, including a five-goal effort in a win over Dodge City in the first round of the Region VI Tournament. That effort tied the fourth-best game in team history.

A Kansas Jayhawk Conference and Region VI first-team selection, Hughes also was named the NJCAA and KJCCC/Verizon Wireless Player of Week on two occasions during the season.
