W. Basketball – JCCC survives first real test this season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team, ranked No. 3 in NJCAA Division II, came away with an impressive road victory over State Fair Community College, ranked No. 24 in Division I, Wednesday night in Sedalia, Mo. The Lady Cavaliers pulled away late for a 90-77 victory, and improved to 7-0 on the season. 

All five JCCC starters finished in double figures scoring, led by sophomore guard Juanita Robinson. She flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Robinson hit 6-of-10 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. 

Sophomore point guard Timeka O’Neal followed with 18 points, three assists and three steals. Freshman Nieka Wheeler and sophomores Kariel Hutt and Sameia Kendall each chipped in 10 points. Freshman Kelsey Barrett led the team with 10 rebounds, and scored six points. 

The Lady Cavaliers play twice at this weekend, hosting Southeast Community College Saturday Nov. 23 at 2 p.m., and Missouri Valley College JV Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.
