Volleyball – No. 3 JCCC sweeps No. 16 Neosho County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore night proved special for the No. 3 ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team, as they handed No. 16 Neosho County a 3-0 loss, winning 25-21, 26-24, and 25-21. The victory improved the Lady Cavaliers to 26-5 overall and to 9-0 in the conference, setting up an epic battle Oct. 30 against No. 1 Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kan.  The winner will take home the conference title and bragging rights for another year.

Johnson County owns 20 conference championships. Cowley has 11 titles, including seven of the last eight championships. The two teams shared the title in 2010.

In the win over the Panthers, three JCCC players recorded double figures in kills. Sophomores Preecy Sever and Lori Angello each recorded 13 kills, and freshman Briana Pontious added 10. Seever also hit an impressive .355.

Freshman Alexis Hartzog led the team with 24 digs, and Angello added 13 digs, giving her a double-double in kills and digs. Sophomore Bethany Farres directed the offense, finishing with 39 assists, moving her just 13 shy of 1,000 for the season.
