Track – 2013 season off and running

Caniggia RaynorOVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College women’s and men’s track and field teams opened the 2013 season Jan. 11, by hosting the Dave Burgess Invitational in the JCCC Fieldhouse. Athletes from eight schools participated in this year’s event.

Additionally, four JCCC Fieldhouse records were established, including one by JCCC sophomore thrower Caniggia Raynor. He set a new standard in the weight throw with a mark of 56-9.25. That bettered his mark of 54-9 in the event last year. That mark also ranks as the third best effort in team history.

Allen’s Terika Henry in the women’s 300-meters (42.84) and Chris Donald in the men’s 500-meters (1:07.18), and Highland’s Mandy Wilson in the women’s 400-meters (1:02.75) set the other three Fieldhouse records.

JCCC sophomore Nickson Baselle just missed the Fieldhouse record in the 500-meters, finishing a close second to Donald, but his time of 1:07.96 did set a new school record in the event.

Sophomore Mark Sitek placed runner-up in the men’s 300-meter dash with a time of 35.34, which ranks him third all-time, and freshman Dakota Edmonds recorded the fifth-best women’s 300-meter time in team history with her runner-up finish of 44.50.

JCCC also had several other athletes post second-place finishes during the evening. Kaylyn Williams in the women’s 60-meter hurdles (9.76); Garrett Smith in the men’s pole vault (14.3.25); Jessica Tingle in the women’s pole vault (10-0), Nick Ramirez in the men’s long jump (21-10); Jordan Ross in the women’s high jump (5-3); Monet Jackson in the women’s weight throw (49-9) and Brice Jalisa in the women’s triple jump (35-4).
