Soccer – JCCC players earn weekly honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore midfielder Kelsey Wakefield  (Mill Valley) and freshman forward Jorge Rivero (Olathe North) were selected the Female and Male KJCCC/Verizon Wireless Soccer Players of the Week, yesterday.  This is Rivero’s third Player of the Week honor in four weeks. 

Wakefield help lead No. 16 JCCC to a pair of wins last week. She began the week by scoring a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Independence. She scored the first, third and seventh goals for the Lady Cavaliers. She capped her week with a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win at Cowley. Her assist led to what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Rivero had another key week Johnson County, finishing with three goals scored and two assists in wins over Independence and Cowley. Against Indy, Rivero had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win, and against Cowley, he played a part in all three goals, scoring twice and assisting on another. JCCC won 3-1.
