M. Basketball – Jeffers gets win in 800th game as coach

OVERLAND PARK, KS – Johnson County Community College head coach Mike Jeffers got a congratulatory introduction for coaching his 800th collegiate game by the Cavaliers public address announcer before the game, then his team made it a cause for celebration by handing cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas a 62-48 setback.

The Cavaliers were solid in their half court offense in the first half, and built an eight-point lead at the break. JCCC shot 46 percent from the field in the half. They did cool off slightly in the second half, hitting 42 percent, but the Cavaliers secured their sixth win of the season by hitting 13 of their 15 free throws in the half, many down the stretch.

Sophomore guard Christian Hildebrandt powered the Cavaliers with 23 points. He was 6-of-17 from the floor, including two 3-pointers, and was a solid 9-of-10 at the line.

Also in double figures were sophomore forward Myles Hibler and freshman guard Pat Jones. Hibler his seven of his 11 attempts, and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. Jones added 12 points, and dished out a season high 10 assists. Sophomore forward Tony Jones also had a solid line, finishing with eight points, seven boards, four steals and three blocked shots.
