M. Basketball – Cavaliers nearly down No. 2 Coffeyville

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team nearly pulled of one off its biggest upsets in team history Wednesday night. The Cavaliers led No. 2 Coffeyville, 48-44 with 5:03 left, but the Ravens were able to close out the game on an 11-0 run, and escape with a 55-48 victory.

JCCC sophomore forward Tony Jones threw down a monster jam then completed the three-point play with a free throw, giving JCCC the four-point cushion.  The Cavaliers had several opportunities down the stretch, but just were not able to find the bottom of the net.

Jones led JCCC with 13 points and six rebounds. Myles Hibler and Pat Jones each followed eight points, and Christian Hildebrandt chipped in seven. The Ravens Montel James led all players with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 9-16 on the season, while Coffeyville improved to 24-1, and remained unbeaten in conference play.
