M. Basketball – Cavaliers enter break on winning note

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball ended its first half the season on a winning note, handing Westminster JV a 91-47 loss Sunday afternoon.  That victory came on the heels of a 96-88 setback to Allen Community College a day earlier. 

Sophomore guard Pat Jones had a big weekend for the Cavaliers. Jones averaged 30.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the two games. He also knocked down 11 3-point baskets and shot 58 percent from 3-point range.

In the win over Westminster, Jones finished with 29 points, and hit five treys. He also had four assists and four steals. Against Allen, he poured in 32 points and matched his career with six made 3-pointers. 

JCCC also got big games from freshman BiQuavious Sturgis, sophomore Preston Oakes and freshman Rashard Young in the win over the Blue Jays. Sturgis finished with 24 points and six rebounds. Oakes followed with 16 points and seven boards and Young chipped in 12 points and five rebounds. Oakes also had a big game against Allen, finishing with 24 points and nine rebounds. 

The Cavaliers, 4-10 overall, return to action Saturday, Jan. 4 in Dallas against North Lake College.  Their next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 15 against North Central Missouri.
