M. Basketball – Cavaliers 1-1 at Brown Mackie Classic

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team went 1-1 at the Brown Mackie Classic in Salina, Kan., over the weekend. The Cavaliers opened with a 98-89 loss to Neosho County, but rebounded to get their first win of the season the following day, downing Bethel JV, 76-62. 

Sophomore guard Pat Jones had a big weekend for the Cavaliers. He opened with a career high 29-point effort against Neosho County. Jones hit 8-of-14 shots, including six 3-pointers, and was 7-of-8 at the line. He capped the weekend with 13 points in the win over Bethel. 

Sophomore forward Preston Oakes also had two key performances. He poured in 19 points against the Panthers, and led JCCC with 15 point against the Threshers. Oakes also pulled down nine rebounds to led JCCC in that category. Sophomore guard Trevor Myers came in off the bench to chip in 13 against Bethel. 

Johnson County will play at home for the first time Tuesday, Nov. 12, against NJCAA Division I power Hutchinson Community College. They also host Butler Community College, Nov. 16, and Ottawa University JV, Nov. 18.
