Golf – JCCC’s Miller wins first conference tournament

0VERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman Parker Miller began his college golf career with an impressive one shot victory over Dodge City’s Ryan Hand at the first conference tournament of the season, Sept. 9.  Miller fired a two-under 142 at the par 72 Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Kan., fueled by a tournament best nine birdies over 36 holes.

Miller, a graduate from Piper High School, opened with an even par 72, and secured the victory with a two under 70 in the final round. His score of 72 tied the team record for lowest scored recorded at Quail Ridge, and his 70 established a new team mark.

JCCC also had two other players finish among the top 10 players. Sophomore Wade Hageman finished in two-way tie for fifth place with a two over 146, and freshman Charlie Rinehart was one back with a three over 147 and placed seventh. Hageman posted rounds of 74 and 72, and Rinehart carded a 75 and 72.

The JCCC golf team travels to McPherson, Kan., in two weeks to take on Turkey Creek Golf Course, the site of the second conference designated tournament this season.
