Golf – Funcic gets second victory of the season

Mario FuncicOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore golfer Mario Funcic captured his second victory of season, finishing two under par in the fifth Jayhawk Conference Designated at Salina Municipal Golf Course, Monday afternoon. 

Funic fired rounds of 69 and 71 (140) to finish one stroke ahead of Michael O’Connor of Hutchinson Community College. He led the field with eight birdies and was five under on the par 5s.  The victory also moved Funic into third place in the individual conference standing with 27.3 points. 

Sophomore Joey Morrisey finished in a three-way tie for 10th with a 148 total. Morrisey opened with a 78, but got back into contention with a second round of 70. 

Freshman Trevor Tannahill tied for 19th with a 154, and freshman Alex Forristal tied for 25th with a 157. 

As a team, the Cavaliers finished fourth overall, and dropped into a tie for first place with Dodge City heading into the final conference tournament of the season, April 22-23 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan.
