CC – Roberts leads JCCC at Mule Run

Tyler Roberts0VERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore Tyler Roberts raced to a 15th place finish at the Central Missouri Mule Run on Saturday, Sept. 14, helping the Cavaliers to a third place team finish. 

Roberts finished the 6,400-meter course in 21:47.53, giving him the fastest time recorded by a JCCC runner in the history of competing in Mule Run. 

JCCC’s next three runners, freshman Grant Poje and sophomores Sam Yoakum and Michael Chalfant, also etched their names in the annuals at JCCC. Poje time of 22:23.25 ranks as the seventh fastest. Yoakum’s time of 22:38.27 ranks eighth, and Chalfant’s time of 22:41.40 ranks ninth. They finished 31st, 37th and 40th respectively. 

Rounding out the team were freshman Luke Treiber (53rd-23:06.94); freshman John Raines (66th-23:26.56); freshman Layne Hardin (80th-24:11.31) and freshman Zach Lynch (84th-24:24.99). 

The Lady Cavaliers posted a fifth place team finish in the 12-team field. Leading the way were freshmen Katie Nelson and Sydney Simpson. Nelson covered the 4k course in 15:53.64, giving her a 26th place finish. Simpson placed 29th with a time of 15:57.65. 

Other JCCC runners were freshman Paige Miller (36th-16:10.06); sophomore Abi Hartzell (40th-16:14.48); sophomore Michala Ruder (44th-16:19.09); freshman Marie Cellitti (49th-16:35.78); sophomore Mckeinzie Gorthy (57th-16:55.23) and freshman Makenzie Herron (81st-17:34.16). 

The teams travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to compete in the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational.
