CC – JCCC Harriers compete at ESU Planet Sub Invitational

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women’s cross country team placed sixth and men 12th at the Emporia State Planet Sub Cross Country Invitational on Friday evening at Jones Park. 

Freshman Paige Miller led the women’s team with a 13th place finish out of 154 runners. She posted a time of 20:09.32 over the five-kilometer course. 

Freshman Sydney Simpson placed 39th, and sophomore Michala Ruder 40th with times of 21:09.11 and 21:012.04.  Freshman Katie Nelson and sophomore Abi Hartzell followed, coming in 54th and 57th respectively. Nelson finished in 21:39.57, and Hartzell crossed in 21:48.52. 

Freshman Marie Celliti (75th-22:25.67), freshman Makenzie Herron (85th-22:38.93) and sophomore Mackenzie Gorthy (102nd-23:17.46) rounded out the women’s competitors. 

On the men’s side, sophomore Tyler Roberts pace the Cavaliers with a 30th place finish. He finished the eight-kilometer course in 27:58.59.  Sophomore Richard Wiebe followed with a 53rd place finish with a time of 28:45.25. 

Other competitors for JCCC were sophomore Sam Yoakum (87th-29:48.32), sophomore Michael Chalfant (92nd-29:57.02), freshman John Raines (97th-30:05.65), freshman Luke Treiber (101st-30:18.17), freshman Grant Poje (121st-31:09.33), freshman Layne Hardin (126th-31:28.05) and freshman Zach Lynch (132nd-32:08.24). 

The Cavaliers have two more regular season meets before the postseason begins. JCCC will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., Oct. 5 for the Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival, and cap their regular season Oct. 19 in downtown Kansas City at the Kansas City Marathon.
