Baseball-JCCC continues academic success

OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College baseball team is experiencing one of its greatest runs in the program’s history, on and off the field. 

On the Cavaliers have won 40 or more games four of the last five seasons, been ranked national each season, appeared it the program’s first World Series and have won two of the last three East Jayhawk Conference titles. 

That would be enough for most programs to hang their hat on, but JCCC baseball program has an even more impressive run going on the classroom. Johnson County baseball student-athletes have achieved over a 3.0 team grade point average in 10 of the previous 11 semesters. The one year they missed it was a 2.97. The team has also finished in the top 16 in the country for team grade point average five straight years, including three top 10 finishes. 

2008 – 3.1 – 16th in the Nation
2009 – 3.3 – 8th in the Nation
2010 – 3.32 – 4th in the Nation
2011 – 3.12 – 13th in the Nation
2012 – 3.36 – 7th in the Nation 

The Cavaliers are off to another great academic year this season, and look to continue their tradition of top academic finishes nationally. Last fall, the team compiled a GPA of 3.07 and 20 players achieved over a 3.0, and three players registered a 4.0.
