Baseball – Cavaliers drop a pair of one-run games

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College baseball team lost a pair of one-run contests at home again cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College, Wednesday evening, 1-0 and 3-2. 

In the opener, sophomore ace Matt Blackham allowed just one run but the Cavaliers couldn’t get its offense going.  Blackham pitched 5 1/3 innings and struck out five batters. 

Kansas City Kansas’s lone run of the game came in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI single by Dan Long.  Zac Butler picked up the win, going the distance with five strikeouts. 

JCCC sophomore Brett Smith led the Cavaliers with two singles and a stolen base. 

In second game, Johnson County fell behind 3-0 early, but managed to poll within a run, scoring single runs in the third and seventh innings. 

Sophomore Michael Yeager went 3-for-4 and freshman Aaron Schnurbusch was 2-for-4 to lead the Cavaliers, but the rest of the line up went 2-for-20 against KCK right-hander Derrick Winter.
